Our work

What do we do?

VINIoT is working to develop and validate a new technological vineyard monitoring service. This service will allow wine sector SMEs within the SUDOE area to monitor their plantations in real-time, remotely and at various precision levels (grapes, plant, plot and vineyard).

Sensor and IoT Architecture Design

This task force has two main objectives: - To establish the functional and non-functional requirements of the VINIoT service, technological and of application, in the different territories of the Espacio SUDOE. - To Design and to implement the hardware/software architecture for the service to be placed on-site at the different pilot farms to obtain data from the vineyards so to develop the artificial intelligence technology for the GT2 taskforce.

AI Algorithms Development

This group of tasks aims to develop the Artificial Intelligence algorithms that will allow automating the vineyard monitoring from the information obtained by the techniques of image multispectral and the networks of sensors deployed along the terrain. First, it will be necessary to develop the multispectral image processing algorithms, then to combine them with the information from the sensors along the terrain and, finally, to relate all this information to the chemical analyses that provide us with the real value of the relevant parameters to the vineyard.

Tests and System Validation

Validation is being carried out in 4 Demofarms located in different regions of the SUDOE area: Galicia, La Rioja, Douro-Portugal and South of France. The goal focus on collecting data is to adjust the Artificial Intelligence models. There have been campaigns for collecting spectral samples from different parts of the vine. Together with laboratory analyses, counting with an expert observation so to relate both things. We are using VINIoT service tools (cameras and sensors) to make estimates, which are corroborated with laboratory analyses and expert observations.

Transfer to Smes

One of the main objectives of VINIoT is to transfer and disseminate the developed technology to the largest number of wineries in the SUDOE area and other stakeholders (end-users, technology suppliers, government entities, etc.) giving special emphasis to the benefits from its implementation among wine sector SMEs. A series of workshops will be organised in different regions in coordination with dissemination activities. 50 winery visits are expected to take place and visitis to the demofarms to obtain feedback from participants.

VINIoT HUB

The VINIoT HUB is a meeting point for all VINIoT-related stakeholders (wineries, regulatory councils, technology providers, etc). The VINIoT HUB activity is developed by all project partners and it involves actions open to new centers and companies interested in the VINIoT service or similar services to do with the SMEs digitisation. After de definition and creation of the catalog of services included some relevant actors, initiatives and funding lines have been identified and the service was implemented and promoted.

Cross-cutting activities

As cross-cutting activities common activities are carried out: -Project management: focus on the structures, responsibilities and procedures for the administrative management and daily project coordination -Project communication: development of visual identity, website, poster and communication plan -Project monitoring and evaluation: to manage procedures for Risk Management and Quality Control.
